You ARE definitely my favorite beatnik!!! :)

The best things you can do, though, are things you do when NO ONE but GOD is paying attention.

I understand where you are coming from, not sure that i always agree with that philosophy. I respect what you are saying because the bible does say the right hand should not know what the left hand is doing. The Simple Way is an amazing house church community in Philly, Shane Claiborne is the author of one of my favorite new books. Irresistible Revolution. I wonder if we are really living as God intended would there be so much poverty. There will probably always be some sort of poverty but how can we make it better? how can we live as Christ has called us to based on Gods word? It's a revolution of living our God's word I want to be a part of.... miss you my friend! BTW i know real beatnik's and hippy's i can introduce you ;)vir

You're so beat it oozes. What I meant is that giving money to the poor is good, but not if they just buy drugs and beer with it...I learned that lesson long ago and yes I have bought food for people and watched them eat it but if I give homeless people money they will buy drugs, you can count on it. OK I don't say what I do normally but a friend and I used to buy a little girl in Bogota a bowl of changua (egg soup) every day and have her eat it. Then we started buying a little boy soup, too. It is cheap and nutritious. But I knew if I gave her money she'd have to give it to some adult addict.

Sometimes I give money to people but more often than not, FOOD and have them eat it (or they sell it). Homeless people come up ALL THE TIME with the same old story, "I ran out of gas..." or in Colombia someone will get on the bus with "my kid is in the hospital and is about to lose her leg" and you will get on the bus in 2 years and the same person comes on with the same story. Once in France I saw a guy limping along on crutches asking for money and getting it, then later he just gave the crutches to the next begger on the "shift" and he walked away without a limp! One time here in Finneytown years ago I bought a lunch for a homeless guy (Steve was embarrassed) but I had him sit with us and eat it. He was pretty hungry but at the time God told me to do it.
So when those people threw all the money at those people I wonder how many really used it for things they needed or did they just feed their addictions...

VIRGI I just had a strange and miraculous event straight from God happen today- a chance to help someone else- a miracle straight out of thin air. I will explain later- and hope that I DID help these people. It was truly AMAZING. I don't know these people but through EXTEME COINCIDENCE (aka God's will) I came into contact with some people in Williamsburg Virginia. Please keep praying they do the right thing. I will explain later. God is so amazing I was laughing out loud. I felt so USELESS and God used me. At least I HOPE I conveyed what God wanted me to! Ann
